About Steelwool

Steelwool bicycles was born in the spring of 2006, when Thom Johnson and Will Ficner, frustrated with the lack of quality steel bicycles decided to do something about it - Founding The Steelwool Bicycle Co., a company dedicated to making high quality, functional, stylish, steel bicycles.

Like most cyclists, Thom and Will's first bikes were steel. While they have ridden aluminum, titanium and carbon since then, they were driven back to the unsurpassed ride quality of steel - not to mention its durability and relative affordability of this superb, time-tested material - a material that is still being improved.

It turns out that they weren’t the only ones who were looking for high quality steel bicycles. Almost instantly, Steelwool developed a loyal following - especially among bike shop employees. This speaks for itself.

Since it developed its first bikes, Steelwool has expanded its frame offerings and it has also developed a select line of high quality components that live up to the same ideals that the company was founded on.
